ClassificationScheduled maintenance. Customer pay unless a covered part has failed.

Background

The Contractor AL S19 runs a reinforced rear axle and a sealed gearbox because it is sold into commercial use. Walk mowers carry the Masport 3-year limited warranty, unless otherwise specified in the related warranty statement, and the interval below is what keeps a working machine out of a declined claim.

Interval

EveryDo
25 hoursCheck drive belt tension and wheel-drive engagement. Clear packed clippings from the axle housing and the pinion window.
50 hoursInspect the axle bushes for play, check the gearbox for weep at the output seals, grease the height-adjuster pivots.
100 hours or annuallyDrive belt replacement, axle bush replacement if there is any measurable play, gearbox oil level check.

Procedure at 50 hours

  1. Stop the engine, let it cool, remove the spark plug lead.
  2. Set the deck to its highest cutting position and remove the rear axle cover.
  3. Lift each rear wheel and rock it. More than 1.5 mm of radial play at the rim means the bush is worn out; replace both sides as a pair.
  4. Check the drive belt for glazing and for cord showing at the edges. More than 3 mm of stretch over the free span means replacement, not adjustment.
  5. Wipe the gearbox output seals dry and run the machine for five minutes. Any fresh film of oil at a seal is a gearbox job, not a top-up.
  6. Grease the height-adjuster pivots and the axle pivot with a lithium grease. Do not grease the belt side of the pulley.
  7. Refit the cover and confirm that the wheel-drive engages and releases cleanly at both extremes of the control.

Flat-rate allowance 0.5 h for the 50-hour inspection, 1.2 h for the axle bush pair. Scheduled maintenance is customer pay. A gearbox that has failed inside the 3-year limited warranty period is a warranty repair: open the claim from Warranty claims, quote SB-2025-11, and state the machine's declared use type. A machine sold for domestic use and then run commercially is excluded.
